      民間服飾-肚兜是服飾文化語言的外在體現，記錄著時代歷史的變遷。圖案符號是一個民族精神像征意義的高度概括和集中體現。探究肚兜圖案的文化內涵，了解服飾圖案所體現的文化語言，感悟中華文化的核心精神，對傳統文化的傳承以及現代服飾設計、流行時尚與審美都有一定的啟發和參考價值。

      Traditional Chinese
belly-bands are the external manifestation of the cultural language, recording
the historical changes and that of times. Symbol patterns are the high
generalization and epitome of the symbolic significance of the national spirit.
Based on the knowledge of cultural language in belly-band patterns, exploring
the cultural sense of belly-band patterns and perceiving the core spirit in
national culture would provide inspiration and reference not only for the
inheritage of the traditional culture of the nation, but also for the modern
costume design, popular fashion and the aesthetic appreciation as well. 

      在中華民族傳統服飾肚兜文化中，圖案的形狀常常以某個形像的紋飾來表達。無論是動物，植物，還是其他圖案都會成為祭祀或者是表達心願或者寄托情感的載體，體現的是一定的傳統文化精神。肚兜常借助圖案紋飾將具體的實物形像與某一個抽像的概念相對應，借此實現廣大群眾追求生存，追求福、祿、壽、喜的願望和美好的未來目標。在肚兜圖案中，人們經常將各種花卉、蟲鳥、動物、人物等組合成某種圖形，藉此表達某種像征意義，為的是表達對美好生活的期盼。借助肚兜上的圖案紋飾表達某種像征意義、文化內涵以及核心精神，這是一種文化語言的呈現。

      The shape of the
belly-band patterns in Chinese traditional culture is usually the image of
ornamentation. The patterns of the animals, the plants or other things would be
the carriers of practicing sacrifices, expressing the expectations or conveying
the emotion, which signifies a traditional culture spirit. In traditional
Chinese belly-band patterns, a concrete object image is often corresponding to
an abstract concept through decoration designs to achieve people’s goal of the
pursuit of survival, the hope for luck, wealth, longevity, happiness, and the
good future as well. In belly-band patterns, the plants, the insects and birds,
the animals and the characters are often combined into a pattern, expressing
some symbolic significance of expecting the happy life. This is a cultural
language to express the significance, the cultural implication and the core spirit
by making use of the belly-band patterns.

      本書選取了中華傳統服飾肚兜常見圖案，囊括了植物類、昆蟲、動物類、人物類、故事類及文字等其他類，按照不同類別分為八類，以英漢兩種方式進行文化知識解讀，並配以生動的圖案，希望中外讀者能夠直觀的認識了解這些圖案，使中華傳統文化與精神得以傳承與發展，達到古今融合或者中外融合的目的。

     作者是北京服裝學院中外服飾文化研究中心成員之一，一直致力於中外服飾文化的傳播。本書基於作者對肚兜民族服飾圖案的鐘愛，將這些圖片與知識的積累編撰成書，以漢英兩種文字形式呈現給中外讀者，僅為強調這樣一個理念：了解自己民族的服飾文化內涵，古今、中西方互相借鋻是傳統服飾肚兜圖案傳承與創新的基礎。

      In this book, the national traditional
belly-band patterns are selected, covering the plants, the insects, the
animals, people, the tales and the Chinese characters. By classifying them into
eight categories, this book offers the bilingual explanations of the cultural
knowledge from belly-band patterns illustrated with the vivid pictures, hoping
all the readers both from abroad and at home can have a good knowledge of these
patterns for the transmission and development of the Chinese traditional
culture so as to achieve the fusion of the past and the present, and that of
the Chinese and the foreign. 

      The author is one of researchers in Chinese
and Foreign Costume Research
Center, dedicated to
spreading Chinese and Foreign costume culture. This book is compiled in English
and Chinese based on the collected pictures, the accumulated knowledge and the
author’s passion for the
national patterns such as belly-band patterns, only focusing on this idea：The knowledge of the national costume culture, the reference to the
costume culture of the past and the present, the Chinese and the foreign, would
be the basis of transmission and development of the national belly-band
patterns.
