學習者在進入豐富的英語文學殿堂之前需要了解和熟悉英語文學所具有的文學要素、文學流派、文學原理和文學批評等知識，而如此豐厚的知識體繫不可能在普通的英美文學史或英美文學選讀課教學中得以繫統灌輸。為了彌補這一缺憾，楊金纔、王海萌等經過四五年的調查研究和課程教學實踐，精心策劃了“文學導論”這一課件，並在此基礎上不斷補充和完善教學內容。這本題為《文學導論/新世紀高等院校英語專業本科生繫列教材（修訂版）》（Introductton to Literature）的教材就是該課件拓展的成果，現由上海外語教育出版社出版。

《文學導論/新世紀高等院校英語專業本科生繫列教材（修訂版）》由小說、詩歌、戲劇、文論和附錄組成。全書以主要的三類文學體裁，即小說、詩歌、戲劇的特征、要素和流派為主線，精選經典作家的代表作品，通過對文本及具體要素的分析評論，使學習者掌握鋻賞、分析文學作品的必要技巧。尤為重要的是，《文學導論/新世紀高等院校英語專業本科生繫列教材（修訂版）》希望通過對20世紀文學理論的簡明介紹，進一步培養學生的文學理論意識。為此，我們在作品評論中有意識地采用相關理論視角，以期提高學生對具體文學作品的鋻賞力。
