簡·奧斯丁（1775-1817），英國著名女作家。她20歲左右開始寫作，生前匿名出版了四部小說：《理智與情感》（1811）、《傲慢與偏見》（1813）、《曼斯菲爾德莊園》（1814）和《愛瑪》（1815）。《諾桑覺寺》和《勸導》是她去世後於1817年出版的。這些小說都已經成為世界文學中的經典。
