人民幣國際化是重要的國家戰略之一。為了忠實記錄人民幣國際化歷程，客觀反映這一漫長過程中所遭遇的問題與挑戰，中國人民大學從2012年開始每年定期發布《人民幣國際化報告》。
《人民幣國際化報告2012（英文版）》首創人民幣國際化指數，用來概括和反映人民幣實際行使國際貨幣職能的程度。該指數可為管理層提供簡明直觀的決策依據，也是學術界研究相關問題的實用量化指標。
國際金融危機持續發酵和金磚國家經濟地位提升為人民幣國際化展現了難得的歷史機遇，但仍要面對來自國內外經濟和金融領域的多重挑戰。本報告強調實體經濟面的決定性意義，主張將人民幣國際化與利率、彙率、資本賬戶管理等金融改革有機結合，並建議優先考慮對外人民幣貸款等資本輸出方式。政府隻要順勢而為，經濟規律和市場力量自然將推動著人民幣國際化水到渠成。
