In this book are 33 pieces of collected speeches，conference presentations，lectures and reports all written over seas by the author during the past twenty years Under the broad title of comparative literature and comparative culture，these pieces fall naturally into five categories，namely Comparative Literture Theory and the Development of Chinese Comparative listerature Studies on Transcultural Theory，Comparative Poetics，Relationships between Chinese and Western Literatures and Studies on Feminist Literature.All the works in thes book reveal the authors deep understanding of the literature and culture of her own and those of other countries.In addition，they also reflect her major achievements in the field of comparative literature and comparative culture.

樂黛雲，1931年1月生於貴州，1952年畢業於北京大學中文繫，英語四會，俄語可閱讀。現任北京大學現代文學和比較文學教授，，博士生導師、上海外國語大學顧問教授、東北師範大學、天津師範大學、廈門大學、南京大學、南京師範大學、中國語言文化大學兼任教授。1990 年獲加拿大麥克馬斯特大學榮譽文學博士學位，現任中國比較文學學會會長、全國外國文學學會理事。曾任北京大學比較文學與比較文化研究所所長（1984—1998）、深圳大學中文繫主任（1984-1989）。國際比較文學學會副主席（1990—1997）。
