共分為五章，從第一章至第五章分別介紹了內蒙古的自然條件特點、內蒙古植物資源特征、孢粉學基本知識、現代孢粉形態的研究方法、內蒙古植物花粉形態特征。在第五章共收錄描述了內蒙古森林、草原、荒漠三大植被主要植物372種，隸屬81科228屬（包括19變種,5亞種及少量的栽培種）。以恩格勒繫統（Englersystem）為科屬種排列順序，描述了每種植物花粉的形狀、大小、萌發器官類型和數量及花粉粒表面紋飾等形態特征，並且根據相關文獻資料，對每種植物的花果期、生境、分布、產地、用途等內容進行了整理和凝煉。針對每種植物還配有1-3幅利用掃描電子顯微鏡拍攝的高清花粉圖片，更加直觀地反應出每種植物的花粉形態特征和應用價值。
