語碼轉換涉及雙語與語言接觸，是典型的社會語言學問題。王瑾所著的《作為社會實踐的語碼轉換--中文報章漢英語碼轉換的繫統功能語言學研究》從繫統功能語言學的角度研究，分析材料來自三份中文報紙中出現的漢英語碼轉換實例。與國外大多研究關注的殖民、後殖民、移民環境的語碼轉換情況不同，中國社會出現的漢英語碼轉換是英語在第三世界國家作為外語廣泛傳播和“學習性語言接觸”的結果。《作為社會實踐的語碼轉換--中文報章漢英語碼轉換的繫統功能語言學研究》通過理論論證和語料分析表明，不管是從語域變異角度觀照漢英語碼轉換的總體模式，還是從純理功能角度看待其意義及意義的體現方式，無論是將語碼轉換置於交際的微觀即時語境，還是置於價值論話語交錯互文的宏觀文化語境，語碼轉換的形式與功能是“漢英學習型語言接觸”這一特定社會語境在語言層面的投射。本書將常應用於單語研究的繫統功能語言學拓展至雙語領域，並在繫統功能語言學如何為語碼轉換等
