本書介紹了2012年在中國展出的一批高水準的藝術作品,即便不都具有劃時代意義,卻都是非常優秀的作品,其中包括若干在藝術圈內備受尊崇的藝術家,以及一些大家公認的有名藝術家的作品。但是,撰寫《發光體》的初衷並不是為了傾力報道那些最受推崇的中國藝術家。《發光體》與傳統市場觀點有著不一樣的視角,即不再贅述那些缺乏精神實質的陳詞濫調,或像那些大部頭的學術論著一樣將大量的理論分析堆砌在一起。相反地,它隻是一個慶典,慶賀藝術家們在那些美好且順心的日子裡創作出屬於他們自己的作品——非凡而很好的作品。簡言之,它真正關注的是藝術,抑或借用翠西?艾敏的話說,即使他們明天就逝去,這些中國藝術家創作的劃時代的作品也將會被銘記。
